Portals into the ancestral world are everywhere. Stop. Look. Listen. There is no right or wrong way. At the simplest level, a song can remind me of a person or time in my life. If it’s that easy to travel back in time, why can’t I perfect the adventure with a little practice? I’m old enough to remember the film Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour — how he set the scene in his hotel room complete with turn-of-the-century costume and vintage coins. It was fantasy to me when I first saw it, but now I am old (wise?) enough to understand how, and more importantly why, those kinds shifts can and should take place. I am currently trying to connect with the energies of my medieval female relatives. I am reading and meditating, but more importantly I am listening to their style of music and recreating recipes I have found online. Although it may seem foolish to an outsider, by using my senses to tap into latent DNA, I hope to rouse something within myself that brings them to both mind and body.
